Hello Everyone, I have a 1975 Evinrude 25 I need a head for. The number stamped onto the outside of the head is 318392. I went to a boatyard and found a head that looks the same on the outside, same diameter combustion chamber, but the combustion chamber padding looks slightly different and the number stamped on the outside reads 318393. I do not know what model this head is from, but I'm thinking it is a newer model head. Can anyone tell me what I have and if I can use it? Thanks for any help!
Pete
Chances are the other head you found is from an 18/20 hp model. Similar motor, but they changed the piston dome and the head to match when they created the 25 from the 22-cubic inch 18/20. They will not interchange - you need a head from a 25, 1973-1976. Earlier 25 heads may work functionally, but lack the mounting bosses for the coils. Later 25s were a completely different motor (31.8 cubic inches).
