tilt/trim problem

I have a 1973 70hp evinrude with tilt/trim that will tilt up but will only go down about 3/4 of the way. Everything has been working well until now. I usually lower the motor when I bring the boat home so my cover will fit. The last time out I left it tilted up on the trans. saver. Now it will not lower all the way. I have a manual on the motor but it doesn,t cover the tt. Do I have a fluid problem? If so what kind of fluid and how do I fill it. there is no evedience of leaks

Re: tilt/trim problem

Type F Automatic Transmission fluid from the auto parts store is all you need to use. Hydraulic fluid is hydraulic fluid.

As to your not dropping dilema, I am assuming you checked to make sure nothing is in the way ...?.... Just had to ask! ... it sound like your trailering bar that is on hte motor from the factory is in the way...

Next thing, when it STOPS going down, does the pump make a different sound?

I just went out a cycled it again. Now it's not going all the way up but it is going down farther still not all the way. the pump sounds like it's running max to max. How do I add fluid?
