No Spark....

Hello All. I have a 1988 Mercury 100 HP in line 4 cylinder. When I put it away last fall it ran fine, now I pulled it out and no spark. It sputtered once like it wanted to start, then nothing, checked, NO spark. The next day same thing sputtered once, then nothing. Checked all wires for corrosion or loose , all fine. Did not check stator and trigger yet because I am waiting for a fly wheel puller to do so. Please if anyone has any ideas what it might be, give me an idea. Living here in Bush Alaska, old Merc's and Merc mechanics are far and few. Thanks. D

Re: No Spark....

Did you check the main harness connector. I had a problem with my Evinrude 88 earlier this year that did the same thing. Turned out to be some corrosion on the pins on the main harness.

Re: No Spark....

Hey thanks for the advice thus far. I have checked the wire harness, cleaned and re gapped. I also checked kill switch, all ok. Someone here locally suggested I check the condenser, thats the next on the list, along with trying to get the flywheel off. Thanks for the chart, I have checked most so far, I think, will re-check. Again , thanks.

Hi. It was the condenser, or I think Mercury calls it something else, regardless I bypassed it and it started like a charm. I will order a new one ASAP. Thanks for the replies and help.
