The battery in my car died. Not an unusual event at all, except it is the OEM factory installed battery in my 1998 Lincoln Town Car Touring Sedan with 160,000 miles on it. Yep, that old Ford battery lasted 10 years and 160,000 miles worth of starting. Amazing.

That car has to be one of the best cars I ever owned for low maintenance cost.

You probably just need to clean the posts and clamps!
Alittle maintenance goes a long way on these things!!!:D

Yep, you called it. False alarm, just dirty and badly corroded post. The loop type clamp finaly rotted through and wasn't making a good contact. I cut the loop clamp off the positive cable and installed an "old fashioned" heavy lead clamp I had in the basement. Started right up.

BTW, I was glad to see an all plastic battery tray, drain holes, and the screw that holds the wedge clamp in came right out.

Its fine and will probably last another 6 months easy.

I keep thinking I should replace the battery in my '02 F150 soon, but it keeps spinning her over nice. This gives me hope, maybe I'm good for another couple years.

I bet alot of folks dont know it but places like autozone make it a common practice to sell used "reconditioned batterys" as new. Most batterys they get returned as "bad" arent bad but need a "rebuilding" . Then they stamp a new warranty number on it and sell it again as NEW. The best way to tell if you are buying one of these is to carefully look at the post for any marks from being installed before. They try to clean them so you cant see it but often you can.

WOW,they dont make them like they used to.
just had to replace the original battery in my '95 F150
and it only has 51,000 miles on it.
I have been told that it is harder on it just setting than running the bajeuses out of it.
is this true??

I have one of those in my Buick right now. Not going to jinx it by talking about it anymore :)

My grandmother got like 9 years or something out of an OEM delco battery in her Ciera that I inherited. Also got about 10 years out of the stock tires. They had more "tread wear" on the sidewalls than the tread!
