I just bought a 96 jazz with the 120xr. I cant get the thing past 25mph. My buddy used to have one and it should go mid 40's.

I have cleaned the carbs, fuel filter. The compression is OK if stock is suppoed to be 125. Is that right? (125psi)

It has a new rev limiter, and all the plugs fire good. the motor sounds real good. The rmp guage does not work so I dont know it the problem is the rpms arent getting there. How can I fix the rmp guage, it used to work.

Now, I do have a homemade, gasket paper cut put exhaust mainifold gasket it the motor. I ordered the right metal like one, but the homeade one is not leaking, however, it does not have the reistriction cut out blocks on it.

What else can I check, the impeller and wear ring look real good.....

these jet boats love stators and yours should have a red stator under the flywheel and possibly 4 cdm packs instead of the 1 old square power pack .
if your rpms seem low then it is most likley your stators high side has failed .
but if your rpms are high then it can be your wear ring is worn out . as far as your tach goes there is a grey wire coming out of your voltage regulator and that is about 2in wide 2 in long 1 in deep and it has 2 yellow wires ,1 red wire, maybey a black and then your grey tach lead , but your tach itself is prob the culprit . i work on a ton of these things here in my area and the best place to get your electrical parts is www.basicpower.com stator #
CDI174-832075K1 . this is a open stator and runs much more cooler than the factory potted one , the only way to go . has it sat for a while ?
