Let me first begin by saying I know little to nothing about the mechanical side of engines so speaking down to me will actually help. I have a 1997 75 hp Mercury that ran well at the beginning of a week long fishing trip but began vibrating excessively when attempting to throttle up. The engine would vibrate/rock front to back. It seems to run fine at low rpm's and actually seemed to run fine at the end of the week. Thanks in advance.

Check the prop first.

Re: 75 Horsepower Mercury vibrating excessively?

Thanks. I did read somewhere that it could be the prop but there doesn't appear to be any damage to the blades but prop does show signs of wear to the round prop area (the hub?). I can only describe it as a smooth wearing away of the prop. It almost looks like the prop melted as opposed to chipped. Could this cause engine to run erratic? Thanks for reply.
