I have recently acquired a 1985 9.8 HP outboard and the stem comes out of the adapter when I remove the fuel line fitting, by that I mean that I can pull it out by hand without resistance. Is something missing or is the stem supposed to be twisted in the adapter? I don't see anything out of the Mercury drawings to give me a clue, there is an O ring but it seems to be behind the stem rather than before it.
