OMC Starter Pinion Grease alternative

I have a '95 Johnson 130. The Factory Service Manual calls for OMC Starter Pinion Grease for lubricating the starter pinion shaft. The local dealer doesn't have any and say he can order it for about $20 a tube. Sounds like a lot to lube just the one pinion.

Is there an alternative to use like either axle grease or white grease? I know using the Triple Guard grease will make the starter slip (don't ask, but trust me).

You need something light, like sewing machine oil. In a pinch, I use the 3 in 1 oil, which seems to work well.

From what I've been told, no matter what you do, do NOT use WD-40 or other spray lubricants on this component.
