'89 johnson 150 thermostat

seals on the valve cover and water cover were starting to leak. pulled covers as well as stat cover.the question is, are the thermostats needed or can it run without. In cars I've taken them out wondering if boats are the same. thanks

It's up to you, but clearly the manufacturer thought they were important. A 2S motor run too cold will carbon up, but the choice is yours.
