Simple question..... I change the engine oil and filter using a 1 qt (OEM) filter. 5 qts fills it to the full mark on the dipstick. The factory Volvo manual and the Seloc aftermarket manual say 6 qts with filter. 6 qts overfills it on the stick by 1 qt. Who/what is corect? Manual wrong....dipstick wrong...... My buddy has the same engine but a 1998 model year with the exact same issue. We are curious???

PS...Just to clarify, I suck the oil out hot, with a drill pump screwed onto the dipstick tube. 1/2" hose.

Thanks,
Scott

Proper way check engine oil after changing.

Boat in water at rest

Pour in 4 QT's

Start engine and run for a few minutes

Turn off engine, let sit fore five minutes.

Pull dip stick and wipe off, insert dipstick and pull again.

Add oil till it reaches the full mark on the dipstick.

Hey, Homelite...

FYI, my '03 5.0 GXi-b has the same 'issue' ; manual says 6 qts , but the dipstick says 5 . I go w/the dipstick.:D

later,
gator.
