I have a mid 90's 15hp johnson outboard that starts fine, idles fine, but under acceleration it bogs down and dies. It will run at high rpms for about 30 seconds. I have put a new fuel pump, rebuilt the carb, new gas line and tank. I have just recently noticed that water is not coming out of the pee hole when it starts acting up. When it dies it will restart and idle but instantly bogs back down under accel.I also noticed if it starts to bog down under small accel, I can choke it and it runs fine for a second.

Re: 15 HP no water

It is very likely that your engine is overheating and binding when it does.

Whenever the engine is running yow should be able to keep your fingers on the cylinder head for a full three count without undue discomfort.

Read LeeRoy Wisner's informative discussion for advice on the coioling water sytem and ways to curtail the problems. You start with a new water pump, then the thermostat and possible with the powerhead adapter plate seal.
