64 johnson super sea horse 75 hp impeller replacement

Can someone help? Going to replace the impeller on my 1964 75 hpo johnson super sea horse and any tips or suggestions or instructions on the job would be greatly appreciated. Have purchased impeller already.

You might like to get a manual (Library?) to make the job easier. Is it manual shift or electric? The manual shifts had a diamond shaped cover on the midsection. Under that was a rectangular cover over the shift coupling. The hex head bolts needed to be removed completely, or the shift rod would not seperate.

Electric shifts have a wire that has to be disconnected back near the thermostat housing. Then remove the diamond shaped cover from the midsection and feed the wire out through the hole. Then remove the second cover behind the one you just took off and pull it off the wire. Then tie a string to the wires to aid in reassembly.

Now you are ready to unbolt and remove the gearcase. You should have looked before you bought the impeller. A complete water pump kit might be in order. Besides, you may need other parts like a seal or twol
