Default Aluminum prop and Steel Hub ?

I have a simple question. Does an Aluminum prop have a steel hub or is the Hub aluminum also? I lost a prop in the Lake and was wondering if I could retrieve it with a powerful maget. I know the aproxmininity of where I lost the prop and it's in 20- 30 ft of water. I'm not a diver.

I'm sure others will chime in with answers too.

Just a comment on my recent experience. I bought a 2nd prop as a spare and a higher pitch.

It is a Michigan Wheel Aluminum. It was for my Merc so I had to buy a hub kit specific to the Merc.

I know the thrust washer is of Brass or Bronze material so I think the hub is of a non-magnetic material too! I can't check because it's the one that's mounted on the motor right now.

But I would guess that the hub is not steel, but then again it could be because they want you to grease it before mounting so it does not seize onto the spline.

I guress I didn't think of the type. It was a Mercruiser Prop. Not a Michigan Wheel. I put a Michigan wheel on that was my spare. The hub on the Michigan wheel is a composit. the Mercruiser is a solid Hub.

I understood the question. I was saying that the Michigan Wheel prop that I put in place of my OEM Merc prop was probably a composite of some sort.

Which if that's the case, my OEM Merc prop just like yours which is a one piece built in hub is probably a composite too.

If you get no other responses here just call Merc tech support on Monday and ask if you might be able to recover and OEM prop with a big magnet.
