Greetings:
Here's the problem... 89 merc alpha one 165 HP. No reverse.
replaced new cable 3 years ago boat has worked fine.
After 2nd outing this season boat has no reverse and maintains forward gear only.
When I shift into neutral or reverse boat remains in forward. I have to shut down engine to disengage forward.
On start up (without engaging forward) going from neutral directly to reverse engine will rev but not engage into reverse.
Boat is currently in water.. does this appear to be correctable by adjusting the cable ?
Note: I hear no grinding or noise coming from the outdrive. Change of gear lube prior to launch did not produce any evidence of damaged gears.
No shifting problems prior to launch or with initial use this season.
Any help would be appreciated
