Is there a update/different spark plug i should be using for a 2001 Z150TLRZ HPDI 150hp motor. The manual says to use NGK BKR7ES plugs?

thanks pancake

the tune up spec guide for the US market specifies a heat range of 6, there were some ECU updates on certain engines on a case by case basis.
the EKS plug is a single side electrode used when the coil primary connectors are black, if your coil primary connectors are grey then it will use the later style EKU dual electrode plug.
if this is a US market motor post the seriel number and the color of the ign coil primary connectors.

Call up Yamaha customer service (866) 894-1626 and ask for a copy of tech bulletin 0200.

like I say and like bruceAML posted, on a case by case basis there were some ECU updates, the only good way to tell which plug you need is now by the ign coil primary connectors.
there is a tech bulliten out, if you dont beleive us,and I dont blame you, simply read them and it works.
if your local dealership doesnt mind they can pull almost all of the bullitens pertaining to your HPDI right off the YDS system.

ok i crosschecked and it looks like i do have the correct spark plug NGK-BKR6EKU ( semi surface discharge plugs). i also have the black coil with GREY connectors.

Are these hotter plugs ?
how often do you usually clean them? once a season? or more/only when it runs rough?

wow two years later?
dunno about hotter colder milder wilder.
if the ecu has the gray coil connectors its designed to fire the eku style plugs.
the rest is irrelavent.
I would replace them at least yearly.
