Question Blown yamaha motor

I own a 1996 C40PLRU yamaha, the bottom rod bearing locked up from storage. It is going to cost about 1200.00 to overhaul this motor. Should I repair it or find a newer motor.

That's a lot of bux to have in a '96 40HP.

Were it mine I would find another used engine and part that one out on eBay,

or

I would repair the rod bearing without doing a major overhaul.

Hi

You can probably buy a whole block for less. The bottom rod bearing, meaning on the crank? If it locked up in storage then my guess is that there are more problems lurking, and to help put this in perspective, by bottom bearing I am guessing this is the 2 cylinder 40, and there are not many of those older 40s around compared to the 3cyl. 40 yamaha.

Cheers.

Thanks for the info, thats about what I was thinking also. I found a 2002, 50HP Mercury in great shape for $2000.00. I think thats the way to go, I just wanted to see what other people thoght. It is a 2 cylinder, and used parts are hard to find.
