Hello All

I am in the process of repowering my 1997 170 Phantom. The tag in the boat says max of 115 hp. I know that the newer tags state hp and weight. My question, to those of you who have experience here, would I be over powering my boat by putting on a 150 hp? I am looking at the Evinrude E-Tec's and according to the web site, it is only 40 - 45 lbs heavier.

I'd go by the tag if I were you. I just repowered my 19 foot Smoker Craft Osprey with a Honda 150. The boat is rated for 175 hp, but let me tell you, 150 is plenty. Not to mention the weight of the 4 stroke....good luck!
