1977 70 hp won't trim while running

The motor tilts up just fine when off, but won't move when running. Ended up plowing home with the motor trimmed all the way down.

Is this a feature? Or is there something I should be looking at?

It's the older style tilt/trim with the big motor on the starboard side.

Do you have tilt and trim or just tilt only? They made both and the tilt motor does not have the leverage to trim at speed.

Curious how to tell the difference.

My other motor has the trim on the throttle, but this one has a switch on the dash.

I also have the pin that can be set, which my other motor doesn't.

Bear in mind, this is a new to me motor and I've just had it out once, but what you are saying kinda makes sense. It tilts just fine.
