Default Minn Kota Running At 1/2 Speed

I have a Minn Kota trolling motor (I think a 2000) that is running at 1/2 speed. Can anyone give me some ideas as to what may be wrong? I am thinking the speed control dial. When I turn the dial to 100% it runs at about 1/2 speed and it does that all the way down to 10% where the blade stops turning all together. If that is the case, how difficult is it to fix/replace and how can I test it to find out if that is my problem? Thanks in advance.

Is it 12v or 24v?
If it is 24v you may only have 12v going to the motor. Could be caused from a bad Battery or bad connection.

How old is the battery?
Is it fully charged?

Take the top cover off the motor and make sure all the wires are still attached good. I have had wires vibrate loose.

If you are fully confident that all connections are good and battery is good your next step would be to find a minnkota dealer near you and have them check it.

It's a 24v system and the batteries are new this year. I took the batteries in and they tested fine, so I am very confident that the batteries are not the issue. I also checked the conections at the batteries and they are good. I am going to try and check the conections at the motor like you have suggested. One other thing is that I put a new on-board charger in which is when I got the new batteries. Ever since then I have had this problem. I have double checked the wiring and I am almost certain that it is correct. This is driving me nuts!!!
