I have a 1982 40 hp mercury serial number 6086194 2 cylinder with electric start. I need to know weather it is electronic or points . I just bought this motor and the starter only goes a little way up on the flywheel when ingauged witch eats the starter gear all up. The flywheel that is one it now is gray in color and we dont believe this is the right flywheel.We bought a new starter for the motor that the motor calls for in the book supposably and it dont go up on the flywheel very far either. Could someone please tell me what color is the flywheel suppose to be and how many teeth is the flywheel to have? Also to be on the safe side how many teeth is the start to have and what starter is the right starter. The one we got has 9 teeth on it and the part # is MES S1062m for the 40 and 50 hp mercury motors. Is the right one? Please someone tell me what flywheel I need how many teeth is it to have and color and weather it is points or electronic.
