Re: How do i hook up the battery

I recently had to replace my battery cables. I bought 60" prefab battery to starter cables found at Auto Zone for under $8/ea. There's alot of the lug exposed so I used red shrink wrap tubing on the positive leads and black for the negative. Looks and performs like the originals.

Battery hooks up inside the motor cover and is run into the boat and hooked up to the battery. The positive hooks to the starter and I'm not sure of the exact spot the ground hooks up to. I'll try and have a look at my '91, 90 hp tonight and let you know for sure. :)

haha please dont hook the positive directly to the starter, you wont like what happens, look for the cable coming from the starter, it should be red or where it hooks up to the starter it will be insulated from ground, that is you positve after solenoid cable, if you trace that back from the starter you will find a little device known as the solenoid, there should be one loose nut where you can attach your positive battery cable, ok that was all for the positive, negative is much simpler, just look around on the engine block until you find a loose bolt, chances are whoever took it off only screwed it back in a turn or two, but really as long as you make a strong ground you should be ok. good luck
