Tilt trim pump problem

I have a Evinrude 90 hsp 2 cycle, just replaced the trim motor today, and now I have a problem with the fluid leaking out of the screw on the side of the housing. The pistons move up and down, but fluid is forced out of the screw. I tried to remove the screw, to check for O rings, but the screw will not come out. Is there a fix for this, that can be done without removing the pump.

Re: Tilt trim pump problem

If you're speaking of the manual releave valve that is located within a hole at the lower portion of the starboard transom bracket, read on.

That release valve is retained by a snap ring whose purpose is to keep it from being backed out to far to a point whereas it would fall out.

To have that valve in the release position, it should be backed out two turns and two turns only! Backing it out too far results in backing the sealing O Ring into the snap ring which of course destroys the O Ring and results in having the valve leak.

To remove the valve and replace the O Ring, first remove that snap ring.
