Alarm and Engine Shutdown at 17 hours!

1st off please excuse any apparent lack of knowledge or terminiology as this is my 1st boat...

We recently bought a new 2008 Sea Ray 195 Sport with the Mercruiser 4.3 TKS engine. Everything was going great until the 4th of July (of course.) We had just raised anchor and were heading out of a no wake zone after hanging out for a couple of hours. Within 15-20 seconds of leaving the no wake zone and giving the boat some throttle the alarm (constant) went off and the engine shut down...I was able to start it again a few seconds later but we thought we saw smoke or steam from the top of the carbareator so we shut it down. The engine seemed to want to keep running for a while and did not seem to shut down completely for about 15-20 seconds...The trim was all the way down as I know that can certainly be an issue...we ended up getting towed across the lake for an hour- nice!

The service shop thought it was impeller at 1st but that checked out fine...now they are about to dig in and see what happened...any thoughts? The engine is brand new- 17 operating hours!

Welcome to the forum. You have the boat in the shop, wait for their answer, no need to guess. It could be a lot of things. We would have to have more information. Hopefully they will have an answer for you soon.
Are you mechanically competent? Not making fun, there are a lot of people here that take care of their boat, some because they like maintaining their equipment, some because they have had to learn because they can't afford the shops at $100 a hour. You're boat of course is under warranty, but there is a lot you can still do. If you want to learn, you've come to the right place.

haha- the lack of patience is showing huh? I wouldn't say I'm very mechanically inclined, but I definitely would like to learn a lot more than I currently know!
