40 johnson cooling questions/ problems

I have a 1990 40 hp Johnson I just purchased and the water is not comming out of the pee spout. I have replaced the w/p impeller and the thermostat but still no peeing. I am using a hose pipe and the ear muffs for a water supply. Should I see the water pee out of the hole with this set up or is there some other factor I have forgotten to check before I burn something up? Also I do not have a temp. gage but would like to put one on my dash, is that something hard to do or can I just put one on in the drive way? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank You.

follow the pee tube back to the block, remove, now run a wire, weed eater string. thru the hose. kritters love to block them. temp guage kits are easy enough. just because you have the tale tell stream, does not mean the Tstats are opening and cooling your motor. it is just an indicator the the water pump is pumping.

Thank you, I got me a piece of wire and kept runnung it in and out of the hose till the water finally ran out like it used to. Took about 15 minutes of running the wire, I never felt any clogging or blockages of any sorts. Anyhow it is peeing again. Thanks again!
