Angry yamaha 150 carb 2002 oil reserve refill

My yamaha 150 carb has an oil reserve inside the engine. when it gets to bottom line it is suppose to refill from the outside reserve. I had a mechanic look at it. he supposidly checked the wiring & replaced a short-still did not refill. he is now saying it must be the float. I can manually refill the reserve by using the toggle switch. does anyone agree it could be the float? If so, where is the float located (is it connected to the cap)? please excuse the questions in advance if they seem to simple as I am mechanically challenged.

what year 150?
they changed the operating system a few times over the years.
its very very simple, you did not have a short, trust me on that.
do you have a multi-meter? if not buy one and we can walk you through this simple technician killer.

ok, first we have established the power to the transfer pump in the remote tank is ok as well as the ground path as the manual transfer works.
however, if the remote tank is low or the switch for it has an open circuit you will get a yellow lamp,or middle bar or arrow, on the tach and automatic transfer wont occur, first place to start is to check the remote tank level then the switch, if the tach shows green or three bars skip that step.
to test the float switch in the engine tnk first drain the tank by removing the vinyl trap, then remove the float switch and screen paying attention to the vent hole on the screens orientation to the tab and flat on the switch for reassmbly.
using your multimeter with the float ll the way up should be closed circuit between the blue/white and black, thats the command for pump off, between blue/green and black qwith the float at midpoint you should see closed circuit this is the pump on command, with the float all the way down between the blue/red and black you should see closed circuit, this is no oil and RPM reduction command.
black is the ground path for all three switches.
after 1995 all V6 engines have to be running for automatic transfer to occur, however there is trick. with the remote tank over 1/2 full and the engine tank below the second line it will initiate a 180 second transfer cycle and flash 3 bars at key on engine off.
its a quick way to test the alarm and the oil transfer rate, if it cannot refill the tank in 180 seconds then look for a clogged remote tank filter or a pinched hose.
