I purchased a 1984 coochie craft Aggressor, with a 1982 115hp Johnson v4 a little over a year ago, the boat had set for 2 years prior, and about a year after a got, we replaced to gas tank, fuel lines, ignition switch, cables, you name it, when we finally got it running, it ran great, we did all this work in the past 3 months, hoping to get it in the water by our big 4th of july campout, after several test runs we were very happy with how it ran, but when we unloaded it for our trip, it started right up, took off great, when we approached shallow water we throttled down, and we went to throttle it back up it died, we restarted it, started good, idled great, even reved up to high rpm's, but as soon as we put it in gear it died, it did this repeatedly, until we managed to make it to the campsite using the trolling moter. A friend suggested that it might be the power pack, and that johnson's were bad for those going out, but I figured I needed to get a second opinion, since I am on a limited budget. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to iboats. don't buy anything till you trouble shoot the motor. compression check and spark check all 4 cylinders. then start it on muffs and pull a plug wire individually, and listen for the change in rps. if you do not get the change, you have a cylinder not running. either no spark, fuel or compression. since you already check spark and compression and it was good, that leaves fuel problem, which i suspect. do to the motor sitting for 2 years. using the motor has probably, broken up varnished dirty fuel, and clogging a carb.
