theres a hole in my head

i have a 1987 bayliner with a stock 170rm (470 ) mercruiser. ive noticed that at the back of the head theres 3/4 inch or so, machined hole that exhaust comes out of. its a little tapered and when i stick my finger in it, it feels like a broken tube in side. i cant find what its for in any of my manuals. or what part goes into it.

87Bayliners came stock with OMC/Cobra The 470 must have been a replacement. Post a pic and show what you mean.Jerry
