I have a mercury 1150 Ser#4255713 w/thunderbolt ignition. Would like to know what year it is. The starter sticks untill I hit it with a screwdriver handle. The starter is a 50-57465.What do you suggest?

Re: mercury 1150 starter

should be a 1975.
sounds like the brushes in the starter are worn out.
get new brushes or just replace the starter, you should be able to find a new one for less than $150.

Any of these should work..

I just got mine rebuilt at a starter shop for 40 dollars,he did it while I waited. I would not even mess with one,the brushes are a pain in the rear to get installed.

Mercury and aftermarket Mercparts places (Crowleyarine.com) should sell the brushes. Inspect the brush holder as well. These are purchaseable as well.
