:confused:I just inherited the responsibilities of taken out a 25ft cajun with a 200 hp Oceanrunner. I am new to outboard motors and i am not sure about a couple things. First, what type of oil goes in the resevore? It appears that 2 cycle has been being used because there is a empty jug on board. Does it suppose to use 4 cycle? I been told it is ok for either but i dont think that is right. Second, there is no water comming out the top when in the water. That also doesnt seem right. I dont want to be responsible for a damaged engine.
Thanks

there should be water comming out of the tell tale in the motor pan. Use 2 cycle oil with a TCW3 rating.

Thanks for the help. What does BRP stand for so i can look it up and what would cause the water not to come out?

Just Google Evinrude or Johnson. If it's not overheating, I wouldn't get too worked up over the tell tale (or lack of).

It does not have a temp guage anywhere that i can see. Will it shut down before overheating? Also i just found out that a 4 cycle oil (about a galllon) was put in the resevore? Would this cause damage to the engine as well?

Will it shutdown before overheating ... No, but you should get a hot horn alert and continued running may stop it permanently. The owners manual will fill you. I would get that pronto.

If it were my motor, I would pump out the reservoir and put the correct oil in it. 4 cycle oil is not designed to be burned and the results are unpredictable.

If you don't have a temperature gauge, run the motor, for at least 15 minutes, stop it, remove the powerhead cover. You should be able to touch the cylinder heads w/o getting burned (should be ~ 140? F ... warm but not hot enough to burn). If the motor passes that test, it's not running too hot. Just be a little cautious, BC it may be hot.

I will change the oil asap. Hope no damage has been done yet. I went on the website and they did not have a 2 stroke 200 on there but they had a 4 stroke 200. Is that what i need to look at?
