Mercury build junk for ign, have you tried a CDI/Rapair replacement. We have used thier products and in 20 years never had a product fail.

I wish I would have read that before I replaced mine with the Mercury model last Spring. I shopped on Ebay for 3 months and thought I got a great deal on it for $120 shipped. It wont be such a deal if I have to replace it again anytime soon.

What symtoms to you get to know your switchbox is bad? I am having issues starting my 45hp4 cyl, same year model, I have spark, getting gas, just won't crank up or hit or anything. I read on another website that I need to check timing/ sync and link, I have no clue what that intales, but anyway, if you could let me know your reasons for changing your switch box.

I have an '88 45hp 4 cylinder. My symptom was intermittent spark on the top cylinder. It would make it hard to start or get above 3000rpm's when it wasn't firing.
