trouble with throttle shift controls

hey i was hoping someone out there could help me i have a 40 horse 4 cylinder kiekhaefer mercury and the throttle and shift controls were messed up so i took the case apart and i cant figure how they work and where to set all the gears so throttle and shifting works. right now i just disconnected the shift and throttle cable and am driving the boat from the motor. i was hoping i could get some kind of diagram or picture of how to set the gears and stuff but the internet is no luck. itd be sweet if someone knew something to help thanks guys

Year of the motor and/or type of controller would help. Took me three hours to set up mine, first time I ever did it for a mercury single lever, :mad:
but its not that hard once you made all the mistakes I have.:D
