mercury 65 3 cylinder 1972, no spark

hi, I am getting no spark when trying to turn the engine over, theres no spark to the plugs, the distributor and no resistance in the coil although ther is continuity in all the wiring. I have no idiea about outboards what so ever and have only the information given to me by the guy who looked at it. the tilt switch has been checked and doesnt seem to be the problem although i did first try to start the engine not realizing the engine was on tilt (not sure if this may of caused the problem). If anyone can point me in the right direction in solving the problem it would be much apprieciated. thanks bill

Thanks for your info,i'm most greatful. Do you think my problem could be caused by the cdi and if so can it be tested.The guy who carried out the service has told me he thinks that is where the problem lies but it cant be tested as its asealed unit.As my mechanical knowledge is nil i would be most greatful for your oppinion.Cheers Bill65
