1996 Mercury 120 xr sport jet.

My tach does not work, but is geting power, when you tuen the key, it moves a little then return to zero. My boat is also running off the battery, as the charging sytstem is dead.

Now how do I know if the stator is bad? or could it be the volatge regulator? or the rev limiter? or the trigger?

The boat starts and runs off the battery and sound real good.

It sounds like its only getting 3/4 of the max rpms that it shouldb be getting.

I cant tell, becuase the tach does not work, But by ear, it def. sound like its not revving out? Could this be due to my electrical problem? Ive already cleaned the carbs, rebuilt the fuel pump, fresh gas, and my impeller and wear ring are excellent.

You engine does not use battery power for the ign. and you need to check the rectifier it sounds like it's the cause of both problems.
