Would anyone possibly have a .pdf or something they could email me to show me how to replace a pull rope on a 1957 evinrude 9.9

I dont know nothing about boats, just got this and tried to start it and the rope broke. Better at home than on the lake I guess

My email address is . If that wont accept the attachment let me know and I will give an alternate.

EDIT: deleted email address. TD

Re: pull rope

It's not smart to put your email address in a post unless you want to get loads of spam and other junk. It is also against the forum rules!. If you want to excahnge email addresses with anyone you can do it securely my means of a Private Message (PM)

However I don't have acces to any info on your motor and I don't therefoe know what the recoil mechanism is like.

What I have found works though is to "wind the spring up" almsost fully hold it like that and then thread in and secure the end of the new rope using the other two hands then allow the spring to slowly wind in the rope. Its a bit of a hit or miss approach without a manual that will tell you exactly how many turns to wind the spring but you dont want it too tight or you may break it starting but you want it tight enough to wind in all the rope.

Not knowing the type of mecahnism you have I cant say more than that BUT WHATEVER you do DO NOT let that spring loose. Its like a caged tiger waiting to escape!

Re: pull rope

Your probably going to be ahead taking the motor to a long established dealer ... shouldn't be too expensive.

Re: pull rope

Thanks for the advice. I am also new to message boards, I have read them before but have never posted anything on them. I think I am going to give it a try and if it doesnt work I will see what a dealer will charge me.

if you have never done a lawn mower, it is the same thing. but if you have never seen it done. get help, and watch. can be very dangerous.
