60 HP Evinrude Controls forward, no throttle.....??
Alright, I'm new to this forum posting thing, so go easy on me. Just Bought an '82 Evinrude 60 HP..takes forever to get it started and once running, can't keep it idling. If you can get it in gear and go before it dies, it runs fine, but you can't get full throttle out of it, only about 1/4 throttle. Took off the cowling and was able to get full throttle manually, so I know it's not motor related. Possibly the cables are stretched or not adjusted properly....???? ANY help would be greatly appreciated
Re: 60 HP Evinrude Controls forward, no throttle.....??
Well, you got me thinking....how are you trying to get full throttle, with the big lever on thr remote control, or the little throttle start/warm-up lever? You are not supposed to be able to get full throttle with the warm-up lever.
If I'm guessing right, adjust the idle speed to where it will keep running at slow idle in forward gear. Slight adjustment may then be needed on the cable to match it.
Mostly, do you have an experienced boater friend to take for a ride with you and explain how stuff works? Do you even know it has a choke? (primer actually, but let's not be picky)
Re: 60 HP Evinrude Controls forward, no throttle.....??
you have something wrong in the control, in forward the control should go 90 degrees from neutral. a broken pin, or bushing. you will not get full throttle in reverse. reverse is not a brake, it is slow maneuvering.

Re: 60 HP Evinrude Controls forward, no throttle.....??
The controls are moving freely, with good resistance and are at 90 degrees in forward. I understand that I won't get wide open throttle in reverse, but i should get more than I'm getting, very little in either gear. Maybe I'll start by taking the control box apart and go from there, thanks for your input
