I am looking for a new radio to replace the 20 year old unit in my boat. I would like to have one that has AM FM CD and GPS built in a single unit. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Advice on Radio and GPS

There are a couple automotive units that do this, most are double din sized but they only do AUTOMOTIVE GPS which is much different than off-road gps. I am not aware of anyone currently manufacturing a marine GPS that also doubles as a AM/FM/CD player.

There *ARE* some units that do offer MP3 playback however; One could install the gps & antenna and use the audio output patched into an amplifier to power speakers and accomplish the task that way, you would still be without am/fm/cd. Lowrance offers their Iway series that has an automotive/marine gps and mp3 storage space, and it looks like there are some units also designed for motorcycles by garmin. You will need one that has an offroad mapping system to record trails and set waypoints/markers. More sophisticated units will show the lake contours.

In conclusion I don't think that there is a unit doing exactly what you're looking for at the present time. The Lowrance will work with mp3 playback but it isn't as detailed as a dedicated marine gps, it also has no fish finder/sonar features.
