1996 Johnson 115 short shaft vs long

I found a good price johnson 115 for my boat (glastron cvx 16) My question is the boat takes a short shaft engine but this motor is a long shaft, what short of problems would i have ?

It can be converted to a short shaft, but I think the parts would be hard to find...I haven't seen too many short shaft V4's.

Your cheapest option might be to get a jackplate with a lot of lift. Performance is usually just as good if not better with a jackplate.

I don't think any 115s were made with short shafts in '96. Check this and measure your transom (vertical) height.

15" transom = short
20" transom = long
25" transom = extra long

Let us know what you find.

So, you are going from 25" to 20"? I suppose all things are possible, but it would be very costly and a lot of work.

Current engine is a 20'' the cvx is a low profile boat the 115 that im looking at is a 25 '' according to the current owner, would or can 25'' 115 work on my boat ?

You need to find a 20" engine, Quebec. Converting from XL to L would be a pain.

If i dont convert it you guys think the shaft would be too long for the boat ? Even if i have it on the top setting on the transom ?

yep,too long,I would find another motor,as said way too much effort for a rube goldberg fix.Besides,that boat,if in nice shape deserves a nice setup.I just saw one at a marina in N.Fl.It was like show room.Kids grandfather had it and only got used for a few weeks in summer.Awesome orange flake with wrap around buckets etc.
