Default How to replace impeller on a 4.5 hp Mercury?

We think the impeller on our 4.5 hp Mercury needs to be replaced. The serial number is 7213211 - we checked this on the chart to find the year of the motor, but it is not on the chart. Can you tell us how to access the impeller so that we can replace it? We have searched and found answers to this question, but they haven't been specific enough. Any help, such as where to access a diagram of the motor, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Windsong

im not sure on your 4.5 but on my 115 i had to take the lower end off it was like 5 bolts and it slid apart mine bolted togther right above the prop.im sure yours is similar.it sounds intimadating but its actually pretty easy.i had a hard time getting the impeller off the shaft but other then that i could do one in an hr bye myself.i belive this is your impeller also id double check tho >> 18-3239 im a newbie myself so id get a second opinion before i spent any cash on parts.

I have a 1977 Model 45 that also needs a new impeller. I've taken the 2 nuts loose from the cavitation plate but cannot seperate the lower unit from the rest of the engine. I can get maybe a 1/16" gap but that is all.
The manual says that I should take the propeller off first. Is that necessary? Hope not because the nut will not turn, even with an impact driver.
If the splines are rusted together inside is there a way to get some penentrating oil into them?
Any help or wisdom would sure be appreciated.

Jim

Going by the chart on one of the links posted in this forum, I believe it is a 1984 Canadian made 4.5 hp.
