Gentlemen,
I have a 1973 SeaRay with a Mercruiser 888 / Ford 302 in it. It produces a lot of blue oil smoke, at any time it is running, under all conditions. No idea on engine hours, but compression is in the 120's across the board. Somehow, I don't think the rings are at fault. I replaced the valve stem seals. No change. I'll replace the PCV valve for the heck of it. It seems like the oil return tubes may be plugged up, in the heads, as the oil level drops when the engine has run, then comes back up slowly over maybe 10 minutes or so, after it is shut off! Nice. Someone told me they saw a similar problem that was caused by the intake manifold being rotted, somehow. It seems that the manifold was shot when they got the boat, and someone had RTV'ed a piece of tin can over the hole. I guess oil was making it's way to the intake, around the rot. Odd. Have you guys any ideas on this? Thanks
George
