1989 60 hp 3 cyl running around the lake since spring no problems, started back for the dock one evening & engine started to sputter, lost power, fogged the lake for mosquito's (ha!) but made it back. replaced vro pump restarted engine (no problem) died when put into gear, also noticed wont idle below 1500rpm in nuetral. I've read a bit in the seloc manuel (clean carb's, check if stator is free. I went over all the wiring, fuses, put in new plugs, also read about testing a check valve in the fuel line - don't see one. Please HELP this is messing with me, it just seem's like it should be simple.

have you check spark and compression? if not do so.

I noticed you read about cleaning the carbs, but did you actually do it??

I have good spark but have not checked compression this year.

Carbs have not been overhauled, but it ran beautiful until the vro evidently went out.

Do a compression test. post the numbers here. What do the spark plugs look like. Pay close attention to cylinders 2 and 3

comp. test done all 3 @ 120 psi
