I am just wondering how I should go about preping the aluminum rub rail on my boat before i paint it. Or maybe painting isnt the answer. . it is very nasty looking and i just wanted to go ouver it with some white that i will be repainting the rest of the upper portion with??? Any help thanks
paint's not going to stick very well to aluim. without using an acid etch primer, try a regular Scotch pad (dishes) works wonders, then use car wax to keep looking good- It's a cheap way out!
I was going to suggest a light sanding but I have used scotchbrite pads on many occasions with good results. You will need to get a stronger purpose pad than the one for dishes. There are many different grits. You can coat it with penetrol after you clean it up with the pad .Just wipe it on with a rag.
