1975 Johnson 70 hp fights back

I changed one of the coils on my motor exactly like the one I took off and now when I turn the key it shocks the fire out of me. Motor idles fine but will not shut off. What have I done? dirtydan

Bad ground somewhere, probably at the coil.

Sounds like you're backfeeding the high voltage side of the coil through the wiring. I suggest checking and rechecking all connections to be sure they are correctly installed and clean / tight.

I agree with above, look at the grounds.

Oh, don't run it until you identify the problem, most wiring is sort of shy about 30k voltage running through it...
