Default battery drain - 1972 evinrude 50 selectric

am i supposed to disconnect the battery when im done for the day? even though the ignition key is OFF, there's power constantly being used somewhere. i come back to find my battery at 4v

is this normal?

you either have a load drain, or a battery with a dead cell.

there is a current draw, even with key off.

i just recently replaced the rectifiers, and had found voltage present on terminals #1 & #2 with #3 being 12v from battery

With voltmeter black lead grounded there should be Zero volts present at 1 & 2 and battery voltage at the red wire. Your rectifier is shorted.

i just replaced my diode assembly (brp#580841 oem#510885) is this the same as the rectifer youre talking about? the round component with 3 wires or a different part?

i tested it and all leads can be read 1 way but not the other. is there another test to perform?
