:(I have a 1979 55hp Chrysler Outboard Motor. I am looking for the lower unit for this motor. It is a 2 piece with dual carburetors and bolts up with 6 bolts instead of 4. I have been told by numerous dealers that this specific motor was only built for a couple of years and parts for it are almost impossible to find. If anyone has one or can give me any tips on where to find one, please email me at Thanks

try Franz at www.franzmarine.com. . he just helped me with my 1975 45hp lower unit. I bought a rebuilt LU from him today and should have it next week. you will have to send him your core for the exchange.

get yourself a manual as well.

I have seen that engine and I don't think they were as common as the one piece lower unit ones. I never worked on one so I didn't know that the two piece lower also bolted on with 6 bolts.

What is wrong with your existing lower unit? If it is just seals, they are standard and can be bought at any bearing supply store.

Your best bet would most likely be over at The Chrysler Crew. I do know that the parts (other than seals) for the one piece are no longer available so you must rely on used parts. The same MAY hold true for the two piece lower units. Shame! The engine was well designed and ran strongly if it had Prestolite ignition rather than Magna Power II.

That motor had two difference model lower units, a single piece and a two piece the two piece unit is easy to rebuild the single you have to have special tools to set it up.
