My motor is sputtering and I'm pretty sure it's the carburetor. I bought some Evinrude Johnsone Engine tuner and am curious about the best way to use it to clean combustion chambers.
If your carb is dirty, engine tuner will not do much. It does not get into the small passages and orfices that really need the cleaning. If you're sure it's the carb the best thing is to pull it and take it apart, clean it and then reassemble with a new carb kit.
The symptoms are:
1. Starts great
2. Sputtering
3. The fuel guage jumps on each sputter
4. Can't reach full power when I throttle forward because of sputtering
5. Sounds like the motor is not getting a steady stream of fuel
it is time to start trouble shooting, start with compression and spark check. exactly what motor is it? we need these answers, in order to eliminate expensive problems, and narrow down the problem. you are our eyes and ears. the more trough you are, the better we can help. it could be as simple as a spark plug, coil or as bad as bad piston.
