Old Johnson Motor help

I'm hoping someone can help me!! I have an old Johnson motor, I think it's from the 70's, I'm not sure of the year. The model number is QD-14A, and the serial number is 1001235. It seems like it wants to start but we can't get it to start. The guy we got it from said it was running a couple months ago. It's getting fuel, and spark, and I'm just really not sure why it won't start, or what to do. If anybody knows anything about this type of motor, I would really appreciate the help!! Thanks so much, I'm just starting to get into this, so I don't really completely know what it is that I'm doing yet!!

A little older than the 70's, she is a 1953 10 hp.

That engine is a 1953, I can believe it may not start, check compression, spar, fuel>

A QD-14 is a '53 10hp johnson. Have you pushed the knob on the top right about 4 or 5 times to prime it?
In my experience, the most common problem is spark when one won't start. Often, the coils are bad and produce a spark that is much too weak to fire the fuel mix. You might as well pull the flywheel (you'll need a harmonic balancer puller and 3 hardened 1/4-20 bolts about 4 or 5 inches long) and take a look at the coils. If they're cracked or old looking, you might as well replace the coils, condensers, and pts.
Those QD-14's also came with a cork float which could be soaked with fuel which is pretty common and causing it to flood out.
If you don't actually use a spark tester and be sure your spark will jump will jump a 1/4 inch gap, you don't really have good spark.

Hi, thanks for the welcome!! I am looking for that thread, until I find it, I can tell you this, I checked the compression, that's good. The fuel is new, and it's good, and the motor is getting plenty of fuel, and plenty of spark. I'm going to keep looking, one more question, lol. Will a leaky gasket on the bottom of the carb cause the engine not to start?? Thanks again, and I will try again to find the thread that was mentioned to me.

jbjennings: I think you have your engines' mixed up here, that engine has a remote 6 gal. fuel tank. The primer is on the tank, which is 2 line pressureized, but the seller thought the engine was from the 70's, so who knows.

I did read that thread, I'm going to try and see if the orifice is gummed up, and also check the float. It's flooding as well, so I will see what I come up with!!
