New to outboards .... question

I am looking into getting a pontoon, the boat has a 60 merc on it. If I decide to upgrade the motor at some point what would I need to buy. Is it as simple as pulling the old off, and then re-hooking everything back up IF I stayed within the same brand? I am thinking of keeping the 60 for a while then move over to a 90 or so, but I need to be cost effective when thinking about this. Also during winter months....is the outboard like winterizing an I/O? Thanks

Re: New to outboards .... question

outboard much simpler than an I/O. keep seafoam in your fuel, this way 99% chance the carb will not varnish. you can fog if you like. store out of water with motor in lowered operating position. change lower unit oil before first freeze, just in case there has been any water intrusion. in the south all i do is the lower unit. as we use our boats year round. there have been some changes in the controls in the last 10 years, but brand and vintage, they should match up. check out the wiring harness.
