1987 5.7L Merc: sometimes won't crank

Sometimes when I hit the key, the starter engages but won't crank (like the motor is locked up). Hit the key again and it will crank. (sometimes does, sometimes doesn't)

I don't think it's a bad battery...it's only a few months old and when it does turn over the battery is capable of turning it over for quite some time.

Take the starter out and have it bench tested at the local autoparts store.. prolly needs replaced.

Loose or dirty battery connections will cause that. Don't forget those cables have 2 ends.

its probably a either a bad battery cable/connection (positive or negative) or a bad wire/connection between the keyswitch and the starter.....
or a combination of all that and a bag of chips.
