How do I get more power out of my Mercruiser 3.0 I/O, I run 4000 wot and my max speed is 23-24 mph. Boat is 25 ft Tri toon.

Anyone know simple mods that might help. What should my wot rpm be?

What prop should I have on this beast?

Motor runs strong

I've got a 16P prop on at 4000 rpm wot.

Do you think a 14P would work? Or should I try a 13P

bottom line, not much you can do for power. Do a quick search on here and you will find a lot of topics about the 3.0 and no power. There really arn't any performance add ons that I have found

IMO that is a big boat for the 3.0.

Take it out and put in a V-8. a 25ft boat is way underpowered with a 3.0,, even a 4.3 would be slow.

Re: More Power!!!!!! ????????

Need to know more about the prop.

16 Pitch, but what diameter? typical aluminum prop numbers would look like 14-1/2" x 17" meaning 14-1/2 in. diameter by 17 in. pitch, not to say that this is the size you need, though...

Pitch isn't alway everthing, the diameter plays a lot into the performance as well...

then there is aluminum or stainless... and number of blades, cupped vs non-cupped blade shape, etc, stc...

Lets know the whole geometry of the prop before we make any suggestions...

Re: More Power!!!!!! ????????

you need to double check the rpms on your gauge with a good known shop tach. is it running 4k with a fully loaded boat or with just you in it?
that motor should be running about 44-4600rpms.......
if you are in fact low on rpms..... with just you in the boat. do a tune up on the motor before you think about propping. Alot of people prop as a band aide for something else amiss.
if your low on rpms with a fully loaded boat then it may in fact just be a propping issue.
If its all good and you get the engine where it's supposed to be and you still want to go faster......
leave the fat chicks on the dock :)
