Ok, I'm a girl with a problem, but I am more than willing to follow advice. New owner of a pontoon, but problem with motor. Was just serviced 1 month ago, taken out on lake fine until last Sunday. Now the Problem (I will try not to ramble) REMEMBER ALL THIS HAPPENED AT THE SAME TIME. 1) radio stopped, 2) fish finder stopped (checked fuses, all are OK). 3) coming back into dock the motor would not stay idled unless throttle was all the way up, so I switched tanks thinking it was bad gas in one tank, knew the other held gas from different source. Problem continued. 4) Now the MAJOR Problem: When I did get the boat to go forward, I could only get it to 2800 RPM's, usually runs around 4500-5000 RPM's, and the battery gage was not in the middle, but all the way to the right as if it was trying to charge something. So I puttered into the dock. 5) The oil was to fill line 1 month ago, and now small amount left. I have checked the fuse in the motor casing and it is ok. Could this be electrical? Power Pack replaced 2 yrs ago. Motor is 1992 Mercury 40 hp 2 stroke. Could it be fuel pump? Since we have burned that much oil (no oil slick noted in water) But that doesn't explain loss of radio and fish finder?! This is your puzzle for a Sunday!
